Alii Antiques Of Kailua It all started with a collector's itch. We'd go hunting for treasures on the weekends, and had no idea that our passion for collecting would grow into what is now Ali'i Antiques of Kailua. For 30 years, we operated two shops on Maluniu avenue, just a few blocks from where we are now.

Very cute store with a lot of unique items, some are priced kind of high and it's packed to the brim, but definitely worth stopping in! I found something that even my fiance liked at a price he was shocked by (in a good way). If you like antiques, tikis, carved boxes, or knick knacks, check them out! I will be back every so often to see what they have

Should be called Bad Mojo. We stopped the car in the alley by the store to avoid getting lost and to figure out what we were going to do nearby -- including visit this shop. It's a fire lane, so we knew we couldn't park. Even before I stopped the car, the owner was coming toward us aggressively. Then he threatened to write down the license plate and call the police!

He could have kindly asked us to move, but he didn't. Even my kid couldn't believe it. We will never go there. There is a bakery nearby, a great little salon and a froyo/boba place across the street -- kind people. I suggest: Stay away if you want a slice of Paradise.

Very weird vibe. She had the most disgusted looked on her face when I came around the corner. And asked what i was looking for and preceded to usher me out of the door as she handed me a card and told me people can only shop by appointment. I threw the card on the ground by the door. Just rude. Also there are no signs anywhere to say by appointment only. But there is a two huge open signs lit up by the door.

Several years ago I shopped at this store from time to time. Didn't usually find anything to buy but once in a while I did. Mostly just enjoyed looking around at all the treasures. I remember going into both the of their antique stores as a little girl with my grandpa. He would often buy jewelry from stores like that if the price was right. He had a magnificent collection that has since been passed down.

However a few years ago on one of my trips there I was told by the wife Linda that I wasn't welcome there any longer because "I never buy anything." The man was so rude almost physically confrontational it was slightly scary and he kept saying "u know why" as I continued to ask what I had done to deserve this treatment. Then the other day (now about 3 years later) I am asked to no longer shop at Kailua pickers because "I don't buy anything" it was so familiar. Sheryl the girl that works there said that Linda from Alii Antiques was talking about me to the owner and that I was now no longer welcome.

I think it's a disgusting display of discrimination. U see I was homeless a while back due to some personal hardships. I have a college degree and graduated from Punahou but fell into some difficult times financially. During this time I experienced first hand the discrimination and judgement these people go through. Because of my living situation I was treated this way like I was dirty or a thief even though neither was true.

I have never been caught steeling in either store. Now years after I am still dealing with this discrimination and these uneducated individuals that think they r better than others making inaccurate assumptions when really they r just ignorant. I will never go there to spend my money and I will tell as many people that will listen to do the same. Also u May notice the people that have higher star ratings all seem to have spent Money there.

I realize that making money is their biggest goal. It's either that or being rude. It's a toss up. But I think that everyone should be treated with dignity no matter what. I know I was not. And I know if I was her I would work on recognizing my own shortcomings before treating others, that she knows nothing of, like they have something wrong with them.

For example in Linda's case, she may benefit from the ceasing of her purchasing of stolen goods. I happen to have known of a friend of a friend who would steal items from Macy's to sell to Linda for a discounted price. Linda was aware of how these items were accumulated because she had requested certain types of items in particular for the woman to steal and on this particular trip she had complained about the security tags that were still attached to some of the merchandise.

She had no problem treating me as if I were scum of the earth for not spending enough money in her store yet supported shoplifting in another store when it was to her personal benefit. That's pretty trashy I think. But who am I anyways? According to Linda, I'm no one.

Horrible customer service. I walked in (the sign said "Open") and proceeded to look around the shop while the owner was helping another customer. When they left I asked if I could look at vintage postcards, and she directed me to a corner with a pile of them jammed in a box. I proceeded to look them when she comes up to me asking "who sent you?" No one sent me, and I told her so.

She then proceeded to say that viewing her stuff was by appointment only and kicked me out. I was planning on spending money! What the hell? I'm a Kailua resident and I won't be returning. Awful experience.

Went in for the first time very excited because I love thrifting. and they don't allow food inside even if it's covered and in a plastic bag. I think this is unwise because you're losing customers. Kailua is a walk around and go into the small shops community. What if a tourist was just done eating? U just turned down so much money.

And then she said it was by appointment only. why have an open sign? That doesn't make sense at all? Take down your open signs and make an appointment sign. You just turn people down and it sucks because u lose customers for life. I'm never going in there again haha

We were just in the area and went in today just to look around and it wasn't a very welcoming atmosphere. From the moment we walked in we weren't even greeted. The employee was on her phone texting. It's a shame because the other store of there's has the best customer service and experience. The sales person wasn't very helpful at all and instead of asking if we needed help she proceeded to tell us there was a private tour and we needed to leave.

The store was very messy and things were just piled on each other much like an unorganized garage sale. Also no pictures are allowed in this store but why would anyone want to take a picture of that mess? Lol

Great little shop packed floor to ceiling with lots of cool stuff. Especially loved the Hawaii related books, Tikis, Aloha shirts and Hawaiian Kia bowls

I bought from their old location several times over the years and was in Kailua today so decided to stop by their new spot. It was cold and rainy today, had to park a block away on meter parking and walked over in the wind and rain. My hoodie was zipped up and I had a baseball cap on to keep things tidy. It blew off and landed in the muddy water. So I'm not looking stylish.

I step into the shop and she was immediately on me what I wanted, not in a nice way, and when I said I wanted to just browse, she said: "It's by appointment only." I was surprised, there are no signs saying that, and I said "Really?". She said, "Yes, it's by appointment only." She wasn't personable, just wanted me out of there, fast, and was holding her phone like she was going to call the cops on me.

Maybe she thought I was homeless (I was soaked, my hair was all over the place, my cap dirty, but my clothes were clean, and I've looked much much worse.) So unfortunate, and my first such experience. The owner's service has never been warm to me, but I'm still mystified why she had to be so insulting. Plenty of other places to spend my hard earned money.

My friends and I were strolling Kailua and decided "Why not?" when we saw this antique store. We walked in and we were greeted which seemed pretty normal. The lady had asked if we were "visitors" and we said we were just looking around. She proceeded to pretty much badger us with questions. She asked if we were doing a play or something and we said no and that we were just looking.

She abruptly said that it was appointment only and that's why she was asking. When really she didn't ask any relevant question to bring appointment only. She should have asked at the beginning if we had an appointment instead of letting us get fully into the store. I was actually interested in purchasing some things, but she definitely lost business today.

We attempted to shop there on a Saturday since the "Open" signs were on and the doors were open and all. Apparently they only are open for appointments. At least that's what the rude woman told us as she glared over her glasses at us. She was in some sort of deep conversation with a gentleman and neither looked pleased we interrupted them in an attempt to examine and buy her wares.

We didn't linger, but I was able to glance at the set up as we left. Items are extremely disorganized and seemed kind of piled up on themselves. There was barely a foot path around most of it. Nothing I saw wowed me into thinking there was anything of value that required a private appointment to see. It struck me more as a place that was lucky to get business. It was very dark and dusty inside.

The owner, who was on the phone, waved hello with a smile as I entered the store. They also had a wonderful air conditioner. Most of the items were Hawaiian-esque along with many horse statues, fabrics, vintage dolls, beautiful jewelry, and glass sculptures. I came in, looking for intricate glass animal sculptures and a giant ceramic chicken. The store had a few glass animals and one medium sized ceramic chicken.

But the really nice glass animals were a bit out of my price range and the ceramic chicken I saw wasn't fluffy looking. But the place is nice and tidy, air conditioned, and is fun to explore. And the owner was nice to me. If you come to visit, expect to pay a bit more than the average hand-me-down store.

My companion and I had a wonderful time visiting Ali'l Antiques' two locations. We met and talked to the owners Charles and Linda. I really like Charles' Hawaiian collectibles. We purchased items from each store at very reasonable prices. There are some "treasures" in the two shops if you spend the time to look. When I can afford to visit the Islands in future, I will definitely drop by to say hello to Charles and Linda.

I have been here several times and I really have no complaints; although I have never been kicked out for talking on my phone (which seems so odd?), when I visit Kailua I make a point to visit this shop because they have such great vintage shirts. Seriously, the have so much selection and really great prices, I love to get gifts for my friends on the mainland at this shop.

Owner is a dick! I went out of my way just to download this app because of the bad experience i had at this place. I got kicked out because I was talking on my phone, i was toled "hang up or get out" because he was "trying to eat his lunch" obviously he doesn't want business.

Recently revisitd both locations after not being in for quite a while. There's such a variety of wonderful treasures and it seems more organized & less cluttered than in the past, so while there was PLENTY to see, I didn't feel "trapped in." The prices were very reasonable at both locations & the people were very friendly.

Two shops.one ran by the wife the other by the husband. Two completely different shopping experiences. The wife is friendly and everything in the store was on sale. The husband was crabby and could have cared less if we were there.his stuff was over priced.

I had the door shut it my face when I tried to come in with my son's stroller. I somehow managed to miss the "NO STROLLER" sign, which was written in 12 pt. font. I couldn't believe how incredibly rude the owner was. However, I was interested in what they had and did go in to look around. The owner was again rude to me even after complying with their rules and putting my stroller away.

The store was very messy and unorganized. I don't know how anyone could find anything in there. Anyways, I don't recommend this place. There are so many other antique stores, spend your time and money somewhere else!

I'm bumping this spot up a star, but it's actually for the Alii Antique 2 location. I've been in twice now. The first time I left with a mint condition promo pyrex dish that I'd been looking for for awhile, and it only set me back $25. Pretty good, pretty good. The second time I went in I found another pyrex bowl I wanted, and chatted with the guy behind the register.

I told him about the different patterns, colors and years of the pyrex collections. I asked that if he ever come across some pink butterprint that he not sell it and wait for me to come look at it first, he said that he would. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted a painting I fell in love with. It didn't have a price tag on it, so I asked how much.

He said $200. YIKES! Well, just the pyrex bowl then. He said that he appreciated my business and that he also knew I'd be back in the future so he dropped the art piece down to $50, and the pyrex to $10. HELLS YEAH! I'm still claustrophobic to hit up his wife's shop, but Alii 2.0 is the spot!

It is the PYREX mecca! don't bother with another antique store if you are looking for corning ware, PYREX or fire king, they are the place to go. can't believe the amount and design of all the PYREX dinnerware! you'll pay as much as eBay or amazon, except without the shipping. and they give 20% off all large Pyrex sizes. ( the smaller dishes are favorites of the tourists, so, no deal) I'll be back for sure. the only warning. do NOT wear bulky clothes, everything is packed in tight and shaky, one bump, and it can get topsy-turvy with all the creatively stacked treasures, hj

My first impression when I stepped into this store was "omg. I've seen a collection like this on Hoarders". not the animal or disgusting kind, just the kind with WAY too much stuff and no space to put it all. A ton of things ranging from bags, antiques, glass, jewelry, etc., piled on top of each other made it super difficult to walk around! That's how packed it was, things on top of things, no shelf space.

There were signs all over that said "ask for assistance! you break it, you buy it!" Resembled Hoarders but not the kind with animals, think of one of those episodes where the house was filled with collections from the floor to the ceiling, and no walking space. Prices ranged a lot, some inexpensive items and some more expensive antiques. They need a store with more space.

While trying not to touch or break anything, I kept wondering how the owner filled the store. "Storage Wars" also came to mind because it kind of reminds me of one of those storage units that people bid on. The store looks like a combination of a storage unit and Hoarders. I don't think I would come back to this store, it feels too claustrophobic for me and it's hard to see everything since it's so packed in there.

I would suggest going here just to experience what I saw. Maybe you'll find something. I'm sure there are quality items, but they might be hard to find in the piles.

This place has the worst customer service I have ever encountered. I highly do not recommend shopping here. If I could give zero stars I would.

Step into the junk drawer, but be careful, 'cause you break, you buy! They have tons of weird old stuff, from a creepy doll collection, to full feathered headdresses, not cheap but fun (except those dolls really freak me out)
